Alan Thomas Howarth, Baron Howarth of Newport has died, aged 81. He was a British Labour Party politician and life peer, who was a member of Parliament from 1983 to 2005. First elected as a Conservative before defecting to Labour in 1995, he was one of few politicians in recent years to have served as a minister in both Labour and Conservative governments. He sat in the House of Lords as a Labour life peer. |

Former BBC Weather presenter Jay Wynne died in June (reported today by BBC News) at the age of 56 after a long-term illness. |

Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton has died at the age of 46. 'Police said a 46-year-old man was found dead this morning at his home in Hyde in Tameside, Greater Manchester. His death is not being treated as suspicious.' (as per BBC News) RIP. |

Former Arsenal academy striker and Chichester City FC player Billy Vigar has died, aged 21. He sustained a "significant brain injury" during an away match at Wingate and Finchley FC last Saturday. It is thought the injury was caused when he collided with a concrete wall, but the club has not confirmed this. |

Former Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell has died at the age of 84. Sir Menzies, or Ming as he was widely known, led the Liberal Democrats from 2006 to 2007 and was the MP for North East Fife at Westminster for 28 years. He became a member of the House of Lords in 2015. His official title was Baron Campbell of Pittenweem. His first career as a sprinter, he held the UK 100m record from 1967 to 1974 and ran in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics - being dubbed The Flying Scotsman. |
